Actions on the Blade

Four time Olympian and a former world No.1 Richard Kruse will show you how to put a trap on a foil blade and pry forwards forcing the opponent to receive a hit. How to issue ‘inch power’ when beating a blade and how to deal with a ‘heavy handed’ opponent will also be covered. Finally, the secrets of the infamous ‘disarm’ will be revealed.

He is also happy to talk about his philosophy of coaching and answer any questions!

Bio

Richard has coached fencing since 2004 and became a full-time professional coach in 2021 after finishing his career as an active fencer. For the entirety of his career as a fencer, he trained under the tutelidge of Ziemek Wojciechowski.

He also holds a diploma in fencing coaching from Semmelweiz University in Budapest (2005) where he studied under the guidance various Hungarian fencing masters including the late Istvan Lukovich.

Richard is currently the head foil coach at Salle Paul Phoenix fencing club in North London.
